Have you heard about antioxidants? They play a role in fighting off certain diseases and illnesses, including it's believed some forms of cancer as well as premature aging and even heart disease! It is common to think that antioxidants are presented in a pill or even powder form. Supplement companies pay millions to advertise these as well as the pill form of vitamins A, C, and E. Sure these pills can help you to reach your goal but it is healthier to do it the natural way by eating right and physical exercises. Do you want to know exactly how do antioxidants protect your body? The antioxidants merge with such elements, known as free radicals, and then neutralize them. These free radicals are something the body produces naturally through its many functions and processes. Typically the body can neutralize and then get rid of these free radicals on its own the way it can defend itself against other harmful elements. Here are some illustrations of things that can stop the body from protecting itself from these bad elements, excessive drinking, living in a trashy enviornment, not taking care of your immune system, and your body being revealed to UV rays. Sustaining a lot of free radicals in the body is not good becuase it hurts the body's organs and systems. It is known by many people that free radicals are the sole of heart diseases and common cancers. They also tend to make a body age as well! Believe it or not the food we eat contain 4,000 antioxidants. A significant amount of these elements have been broken down n made into supplement form, that's why these pills won't be an exact substitute for a healthy diet! Foods that contain many antioxidants like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and items like these contain many vitamins as well as minerals, amino acids, and other elements that are necessary for good health, including those antioxidants that are necessary as well! Vitamins are also identified as antioxidants. Vitamin C is one of the main antioxidants, also known as ascorbic acid. Vitamin C is not stashed away within you body but is found in almost all the tissues. Therefore getting enough vitamin C in your daily diet is essential! If you need to increase your vitamin C consumption, consider citrus fruits. These would include oranges of course but also grapefruits, kiwi fruit, and others. Vitamin C is also found in peppers, potatoes, cabbage, strawberries, and dark green leafy vegetables as well. Another popular antioxidant is vitamin E, which is also believed to keep the body from the aging process. It may not be a cure-all but it definitely does protect the body from damage, especially the skin. If you want to increase your vitamin E consumption, you can consider fish oil, vegetable oil, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds of all types, wheat germ, and whole grain bread. Beta carotene is also known to be an antioxidant. This too is important for a number of bodily functions and processes. This antioxidant will not let harmful UV rays from the sun affect or even damage the outer layer of a fruit. This is believed to also work for human skin! Beta carotene can also prevent pollution in the near by environment. To increase beta carotene in your system, consider yellow and orange fruits and vegetables. Veggies such as carrots and squash would be great examples. Dark green leafy vegetables also contain a lot of beta carotene, so think about collard greens, spinach, and broccoli. And another important antioxidant to consider is selenium. It's believed that it prevents and reverses cell damage in many cases. As identified by some this antioxidant may help the fight through cancer! You can find selenium in supplements but taking too much of it can actually be toxic. This is why you should consider getting it from your diet. Food items with selenium include fish, red meat, eggs, poultry, garlic and whole grains. Fruits and veggies may also be grown in selenium rich soil.
